Photos of Clean Kitchen

Most of the effort in the house today was cleaning-related, and when I got home from work it looked so good that I had to take some pictures.

The builder had suggested that they would be going over the final punchlist with the architect tomorrow, but the architect thought that would be a bit premature. And seeing as they haven't addressed about half of the punchlist items, I'd tend to agree.

Anyway, here's a bunch of photos. Note that a lot of them were taken with a wide angle lens - our house is not really that big!

  1. Oh my goodness . . . I'm just getting back here after not checking your blog all week. It looks BEAUTIFUL!! :)

From your legions of loyal readers, thanks so much for posting the pics. :)

You all must be so excited. Although I do wonder how raked over the coals you all feel - a little? A lot? Or is it like many women say child birth is - that you forget the pain once it's over and you have your beloved baby?

I have some questions, but I'll have to get to them later today, as I've got to get some sleep!

    Beautiful . . .

  2. We are so anxious for everything to be done, done, done. We're starting to fill the cabinets and drawers. Lisa is a little weirded-out by having so many drawers and so few cabinets with doors, but I think it's something new that is functionally equivalent.

We are really happy about the way it looks overall, and at the same time are really frustrated by the things that aren't quite right.

I like your childbirth analogy - though Lisa would be better equipped to answer that one! But ask us in about 6 months, once it's all settled out.

  3. So Dan I have 3 questions:

    1) How did you all decide on dishwasher placement to the left of the sink? Are you all left or right handed?

    2) Do you have the specs on your back door, meaning the brand name and model? I like it. That's the same type of door we want, so I'm curious.

    3) What is your countertop material?

    Thanks!

  4. Here's what I've got:
    1) "The architect" showed it to the left of the sink. We are both right handed. It hasn't seemed strange yet.

2)The door is Simpson Performance Series, but I don't know the model. "The builder" sent us to Stock Building Supply http://www.stockbuildingsupply.com/, Burleson near Hwy 71 and we picked it out, after describing what we wanted - I believe it was the only one that they had that was anywhere close.

    3) The countertop is a solid surface material (like Corian) by Affinity. The color is Linen. http://www.affinitysurfaces.com/Consumers/ColorsofAffinity.aspx

  5. So, are you guys having second thoughts about concrete counters? I was originally really psyched about concrete after seeing them at a friend's house. But the more we looked into them, it seemed there was some risk associated with the fabrication, and some questions about durability - since it's not a standard product, a lot depends on the installer.

So we went plastic!!! The reason we chose Affinity is that it was the least expensive of the options that our installer had. It also seemed that there isn't a lot of difference between the different brands, other than color and price.

  6. Sorry Dan . . . just now checking back in to see your response.

No, we are quite wedded to the very expensive concrete countertops! I was just wondering what your countertop material was because it sort of looked like Corian, but not quite, and I think it turned out looking really good, so I was just curious what it was.

Okay, so I have another question for you. (I hope I'm not being annoying.) Do you like the - I don't know what it's called - for lack of a better word paneling/trim work above/around your kitchen windows? It's hard to tell from the pictures how it would translate if we were standing there. Nick is proposing a similar solution above our kitchen windows, and I'm unsure about it, mostly because it's hard to know what it looks like in real life. Maybe we could drop by at your convenience some time soon so we could see it, if that would be okay with you guys?

I saw Dennis at around noon today and he told me he was meeting you at 1:00. I of course didn't ask him what the meeting was about, but I sort of assumed it was some kind of final walkthrough, although he didn't make it sound like Nick was going too. Anyway, my point is that I hope your project is FINALLY coming to an end. :)

  7. Now I'm excited to see how your stuff is going to look - I'll be so jealous of your concrete, since we didn't have the balls to do it.

We really like the MDO trim boards. I didn't have a clue what they would be - it was a change during construction from normal window trim. But it looks really cool and unusual. Nick indicated that it took some skill from the installers, but ours came out looking good.

You should come by - we don't have a whole lot going on this weekend. Lisa is the keeper of the schedule, so just send her an email or call - maybe for dinner in the new kitchen...

Dennis was coming over to do a review of the progress on the final punchlist. There are just a couple more things that they'll be working on, so it should be done done done before the end of the week. None too soon!

  8. Thanks Dan! I just now emailed Lisa about possibly coming over this weekend.

    I have yet another question . . .

What local cabinet company did you use?

  9. The cabinets are by Under Budget Cabinets (not the best name in the world) http://www.underbudgetaustin.com/. I believe they're off of Burnet, just N of 183.
We had some trouble initially, but they stepped up to the plate and made things right. Plus they're really friendly and pleasant to deal with. When you're working out the design, if you've got cabinetry around your fridge, be sure to talk about the depth of the cabinets and how it will affect the fridge sticking out.

Hopefully we'll see you this weekend!
